With almost every Airbender episode of the season, we meet new people and learn a little more about the world of Avatar. Avatar Aang picks up friends, and sometimes enemies, everywhere he goes! His mission to bring peace to the world starts one small step at a time. Before he can do anything bigger, he has to establish himself. The world thinks all the Avatars are gone, so they’re not going to listen to a 12 year old boy right away. It takes time and effort for him to convince them that he’s the real deal. Not to mention, he doesn’t have full control of his own powers yet! That will take some time and practice too.
The other major plot point in this Avatar episodes book 1 is learning about the Fire Nation. Sure, Aang knows that they were dangerous a few hundred years ago. Now they’re even worse! The second half of the book helps him to see what he’s up against. He’s got his work cut out for him, that’s for sure. Especially since Prince Zuko is hunting for him the entire time. The Prince is sure that if he can capture the Avatar, his father the Fire Lord will welcome him back home. He’s desperate to get back home with his honor restored. He refuses to give up. Even if that means attacking the Northern Water Tribe.
